How I Finally Mastered the Perfect Makeup Foundation

Like most people, I spent years trying different types of foundation in attempts to find the perfect amount of coverage. No matter what, I would discover something I didn’t like about the product. Some made my face cakey, others dried my skin out, while most left me shiny and greasy. After all of these failed attempts, I finally realized that there is not a perfect foundation. Nope, it doesn’t exist. But you can make it look perfect if you focus on your skin instead of your makeup. Like others have said before, skin care is the best care, and adopting these new techniques made my face look better than any makeup ever has.

Before I realized the importance of taking care of your skin, my routine consisted of swiping a makeup wipe across my face and going to bed. However, slowly but surely, I started adding new steps to my evening routine. After doing some research, I came across the Korean 10-step skin care routine. Due to time and money limitations, I do not think it is necessary to follow this routine perfectly. However, it provided a lot of helpful information on the proper order of product application.

My routine now consists of multiple steps to cleanse, renew, and prepare for the future. First, to clean my face I remove my makeup with face wipes, apply an oil based cleaner to remove any remaining makeup, and wash with a water based cleaner to remove any remaining oil. Next, I will exfoliate my face with a gentle scrub once a week to remove dead skin. Don’t do this too often or it will dry out your face! Then, I apply toner with a cotton pad to return my face to its natural pH level. After that, I spritz rose water on my face for hydration (and because it smells fabulous). My last step is the most important in my routine: moisturizer. Find a lotion that works with your skin type to keep your face hydrated, healthy, and wrinkle free in the years to come. Don’t be afraid to put it all over your face and your neck! Also, if your face ever needs some extra TLC, try using a sheet mask occasionally. There are all different types for detoxing, hydrating, anti-aging, anti-blemish, and brightening. Finally, SPF is your best friend to keep your skin looking great in the future. Find a foundation that has SPF included so you will never forget.

Although I am in love with the products I currently use, I don’t recommend any specific ones because everyone’s face is different. Do some research to find what products will be best for you and slowly introduce them one at a time so you know which ones are keepers. Skin care is a long-term investment, and it is one of the most important ones you can make!
