I cannot keep count of the number of guys I have seen on campus who look as if they have just rolled out of bed. Whether they are going to an early class or going to the dining hall, I have rarely taken a second glance at the fashions of my male classmates. I think we can all agree that lazy college fashion can come in many different forms. I, myself, have been a victim of throwing on a pair of leggings and a hat for those rainy days sprinting across campus. However, this Fashionisto reminded me that there are more than just sweatpants and leggings in a college student’s closet. Rain or shine, this Fashionisto did not allow weather to put a damper on his appearance. Each piece that he is wearing can be duped for another, but I love the uniqueness of where he purchased each item.
Name: Matthew Henry Smith
Major: Public and Community Service
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Matthew Henry Smith: Wearing a striped long sleeve tee from Old Navy, shorts from J. Crew, Men’s Short Hunter Boots, Gravis backpack, Fossil belt, eye glasses by Oakley USA and slim fit khaki pants by Gap.
CF: What is your signature fashion statement?
MHS: I go for a look that’s never too casual and walks the line between saavy student and hip professor.
CF: What is favorite trend at the moment?
MHS: Right now, I’m big into up-cycling inexpensive styles from secondhand stores, not boutiques.
CF: If you had an unlimited budget at one clothing store, where would you go?
MHS: Either a vintage menswear store—they don’t make it like they used to—or River Island.
How To: Afraid of a little rain? Don’t be. When you are unaware of the weather circumstances for the day, why not be subtly prepared for either rain or shine? Like this Fashionisto, throw on a pair of short or long khakis with a pair of your most comfortable rain boots. I love the fact that the stripes in his shirt match not only his Hunter Boots but his belt as well. A striped or even a plain T-shirt can be found almost anywhere you can think of! Replicating a similar look not only makes you weather-prepared, but it will also show your classmates that there are more than just sweatpants in a guy’s dorm room.
