And on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…a dapperly dressed gentleman just in time for the holidays! Now that we’ve all overdosed on turkey and pumpkin pie, it’s time to welcome the final month of the year with a plethora of textured sweaters and warm winter accessories. While I’m a fan of practically every men’s fashion trend this season, I have to say my personal favorite is the sleek, yuppie look Fashionistos are sporting these days. Maybe it’s because it takes me back to high school when I had a major crush on my stylish history teacher, or maybe it’s because I keep waiting for Mr. Fitz to walk past me in the communication building—whatever the reason, the laidback-teacher styles college guys are currently rocking definitely get a winning vote in my book! This Fashionisto shows his fellow trendsetters how to exude some sophisticated swagger while still staying true to casual roots.
Name: Payton Martin
CollegeFashionista: What is your style philosophy?
Payton Martin: My style philosophy is to wear clothes that won’t fade out. Make a look for yourself so that people can pick you out of a crowd, but make sure it’s a look that doesn’t compromise being gentlemanly.
CF: What is your signature winter look?
PM: For winter months, I always tend to rock a thick-hooded pea coat. If it’s warm enough, I wear a dark jean jacket with a zip-up hoodie underneath. As for shoes, I always wear my Palladium boots.
CF: How do you make your look more interesting for the holidays?
PM: For the holidays I always wear a red and white toboggan that I’ve had for years. It’s extremely warm and violently festive.
CF: Where do you get your style inspiration?
PM: My dad dresses and lives like a true gentleman. Although we don’t wear the same clothes, I’d like to think that we share a similar style and mindset.
How To: Snag a look similar to Payton’s by piling on the basics. Start with a crisp pair of dark-wash jeans—a true staple in any Fashionisto’s closet. Add a preppy oxford and some distressed leather lace-up boots for a defined, simple vibe. Layer a neutral, cowl-collared sweater on top for some added warmth and flair, then take your look to the next level by rocking some quirky, retro frames. Add a statement watch, just like this Fashionisto’s, and you’re on your way to a perfect winter getup a la Robert Redford at Sundance. Don’t be afraid to channel your inner teacher’s pet this winter as you sport some seriously sophisticated pieces. After all, one can never be overdressed or overeducated!
