The last week at Wofford College is full of celebrations and goodbyes. For seniors, graduation weekend is a bittersweet time where we both reminisce over the past four years and look forward to our futures. Like at all events on this campus, personal style comes out in full force. This Fashionisto caught my eye in his classic prep look that had interesting details that showed his Southern pride. His red chinos and white button-down were complemented with a blue Vineyard Vines bow tie and navy belt that are patterned with the crescent moon and palmetto tree that are the symbol of the state of South Carolina. This Fashionisto has mastered how to add his personal touch on a classic look.
Name: James Ballard
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
James Ballard: I would say my style on a daily basis is relaxed and classic; I usually wear a pair of khakis and a polo, but I do realize there are special occasions that require a bow tie.
CF: What is a staple in your wardrobe?
JB: I always have to have a good pair of khakis, or for summertime, Columbia shorts. They go with everything.
CF: What is your favorite “college budget-friendly” store or brand?
JB: From time to time, I can find great brands for cheap at The Oops! Company. I also get great deals at the J.Crew and Brooks Brothers outlet stores that aren’t too far from campus.
CF: Do you have any style icons or places you draw fashion inspiration from?
JB: My family divides its time between Spartanburg and Charleston, so I draw some of my fashion inspiration from the Low Country style of Charleston that is all about the comfort of the light fabrics of linen and seersucker while still dressing like a proper Southern gentleman.
How To: To achieve the Southern charm of this Fashionisto’s look, start with classic pieces such as a white button-down and brightly colored chinos. Add your personal flair with a quirky bow tie or belt. Finish with your favorite worn-in boat shoes and you will look like a true Southern prep.
