When New York Fashion Week comes around, its presence is made very obvious via every imaginable form of social media. Even if you are as obsessed with fashion and social media as I am, sometimes the constant stream of new clothing, styles and trends can be a bit overwhelming. Recently, however, new men’s fall/winter 2013 lines have caught my eye. Specifically, the styles from the f/w 2013 Ovadia & Sons collection stood out to me. I saw this Fashionisto walking to class in this peacoat and sweater combination and it immediately felt reminiscent of current runway trends, especially the the Ovadia & Sons collection.
Name: Tom Goodsir
Major: Economics, Politics and Philosophy
CollegeFashionista: Do you find you dress more for comfort or style?
Tom Goodsir: Buying clothes for comfort is just lazy! Nobody can see how comfortable you feel, but they can tell if you look good! I’m afraid I deliberately dress for style and I’m lucky enough that the sort of clothes I tend to wear are quite long-lasting: my shoes are so much more comfortable than any pair of trainers I’ve ever owned.
CF: What is your favorite purchase that you’ve made recently?
TG: It has to be my cable knit jumper. Life in the Netherlands gets pretty cold and it’s ridiculously snug. It’s an easy way to keep warm.
CF: How much time do you spend picking out an outfit?
TG: It never takes me too long. For men, it’s easy to pick out a nice (clean) pair of jeans and match it up with something simple on top.
CF: What is one thing every man needs in his wardrobe?
TG: I’d be lost without a really good white collared shirt. As long as it fits well, it can go with everything and it’s easy to layer up with a jumper or a jacket. There’s no need to worry about dressing up in the evening either — you just get up and go.
How To: To get this Fashionisto’s look, look for sturdy and fashionable pieces that will keep you warm. Start with a classic cable knit sweater. For a long-lasting addition to your wardrobe, try this navy option from J.Crew. Try other colors, like a deep burgundy, for a different combination. For extra warmth and style, add a classic peacoat on top. This option from ASOS would work particularly well.
