When one thinks of summertime very distinct visions come to mind of sunshine, sandy beaches, fresh squeezed lemonade, etc. You know the story. However, especially in the Midwest, it isn’t always sunshine and clear skies. With rain showers frequenting Chicago this season, a lightweight and weatherproof wardrobe is key to staying cool, but dry. Most of us have a few key pieces for rainy weather, so it’s important to find quality ones that express your style to ward off feeling blue when the sky isn’t.
This week, one Fashionisto was spotted looking stylish and fully prepared for the approaching rainclouds. Here we see him sporting a terrific lightweight pullover rain jacket. There are a lot of functional components like a large front pouch for keeping technology or other personal items safe from water damage. It also has a great hood with drawstring fitting. Stylish details like contrast buttons and an asymmetrical pocket add personal flair.
Name: Spencer Zidarich
CollegeFashionista: What are your top three summer wardrobe staples?
Spencer Zidarich: Linen shorts, lightweight button-downs and probably my Nike Roshe Runs.
CF: Where do you like to shop for rainproof clothing?
SZ: Most of the time I check out REI and Patagonia but otherwise I’d check the internet for harder to find pieces.
CF: Do you have any tips on dressing for summer showers?
SZ: Yeah, grab a jacket that’s easy to roll up because you never know if the rain’s going to stop. You might want to take it off to hold on to once it gets hot again.
How To: Take a cue from Spencer and stock up on rainy day fashion pieces. A light windbreaker or rain jacket like his paired with cotton shorts will insure you’re prepared for any weather on the horizon. And of course, carry along a classic umbrella with an interesting detail like stripes or a classy wooden handle.
