I guess winter just does not exist in San Marcos. Cooler weather continues to hide from Texas State students. How is a bobcat supposed to dress for a 60-degree, January day? It feels a little weird wearing shorts in January, but if you don’t dress appropriately for the weather, you end up sweating your way through the day. SO, what is a Fashionisto supposed to do? Mix a little fall with your summer look, for those abnormally warm January days!
Our bobcat Fashionisto was spotted on campus due to his bright, ombré T-shirt, black jeans and, of course, a pair of ballin’ shoes. Ombré was in it’s prime during the most recent summer season. However, that does not mean ombré can’t work throughout the rest of the year. By using darker colors, this Fashionisto was able to pull off a summer look during a typically cooler month. Instead of bright neons, a pretty turquoise and dark navy blue give this look a wintery feel. Keeping the pants simple allows the detailing in the top to stand out.
Even though I no longer write the LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS category, I can’t seem to get away from the stylish guys on campus. If I learned anything last semester, I learned that Fashionistos love themselves a good pair of shoe. Although men’s fashion is increasingly becoming more complex and detailed, a lot of the time college students find that their best accessory is their shoes. It’s an easy way to express yourself while still being functional, and functionality is always important on the hilly campus at Texas State.
Name: Robert Van Vranken
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Robert Van Vranken: My personal style can range from skinny jeans and a dark t-shirt, to basketball shorts and a random shirt that is inside the crevasses of my drawer. But if I had to put a name to it, it would have to be “punk with a hint of jock.”
CF: What is your favorite season to dress in?
RVV: My favorite season would definitely be fall. It’s cool enough to wear a light jacket but I can still wear a nice short sleeve t-shirt.
CF: If you could be any piece of clothing/accessory, what would you be and why?
RVV:It would probably be a jacket, because that’s literally ALL I wear when the temperature goes under 50. Plus, they’re really comfortable and who doesn’t like comfort?
CF: What would you never be caught wearing?
RVV: I would never wear plaid, flannel or V-necks. I’m really picky when it comes to clothing so those are a big no-no for me.
How To: This Fashionisto has given us a great cheat sheet to the weird temperature changes in Texas. If you’re unsure of what to wear in the middle of a warm January day, grab that cool T-shirt hanging in your closet that you’ve been missing since the warmer months, style them with your favorite pair of shoes and keep your pants simple! Go through your summer wardrobe and figure out what pieces can work through the winter time. Pick out the darker items and steer clear of those bright neons and rock your way to class!
