One true test of style is being able to pair the cheap find with the designer labels. Thrift stores and vintage shops have created a lust for timeless pieces at bargain prices and who doesn’t love to score a five dollar blazer? This Miami International University of Art and Design Fashionisto created just the right balance with a vintage printed top classic Chucks and his vibrant red Hermes Collier de Chien cuff. That printed situation up top with a muted lower half is very Brayn Boy-esque and was all spotted over the Kenzo runways this season.
Name: Quentin Tomlie
Major: Fashion Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: Where do you shop most?
Quentin Tomlie: I shop online a lot because honestly, Miami doesn’t have many of the things I usually like, so I have to go online to find stuff that is cool and different than what’s going on here in Miami.
CF: How would you label your style?
QT: My style is always changing, I’m never the same. One day I’ll be preppy, the next day I could be gothic. Fashion is supposed to be fun so I like to dress up and be somebody different every day and also express that personality through the way I dress.
CF: What’s your go-to piece in your closet?
QT: Actually this cuff, I can’t live without it and I wear it every day. I have another one in black and I never leave the house without one or the other.
CF: Who or what is your fashion inspiration?
QT: I just get inspired mostly by the things I see and what is going on around me. It depends; it doesn’t even have to be a person or fashion. Something like a building’s architecture and the color blocking on the building can inspire my style, but nothing specific really.
CF: What is your best style tip to others?
QT: The best style tip I can offer is basically find things that fit your body well, that’s the best thing to do. Instead of going after a trend or a certain style to wear, find clothes that fit your body well and usually everything else will fall into place.
How To: When mixing and matching bargain busters with high fashion pieces like this Fashionisto has, start off with a button-down with a cool and fresh print like this one from Urban Outfitters or this steal from Cotton On. Grab your favorite pair of summer shorts in a solid color or go print-on-print if you’re bold enough. Finish off the ensemble with some white high-top Converse All-Stars and seal it all with a cool accessory of choice, whether it’s a watch, an Hermes cuff, a leather wrap bracelet or a stack of wooden beads.
