I’m not one to judge, but a girl can only take so much athletic gear, baggy jeans and dare I say plaid pajama bottoms while reloading on caffeine in the library. Today’s Fashionisto is solid proof that you can absolutely be comfortable and look good while slaving away in the library. I capitalized on the opportunity to hear from this stylish collegiate and feature him as my very first Fashionisto when I spotted him ready to hit the books. When I saw his chestnut colored chords, a worn and authentic washed blue T-shirt, a sleek watch and some loafer-esque Tommy Bahama shoes I knew he was the one and my search had ended.
Name: Kevin Charan
Major: Exercise and Sports Science
CollegeFashionista: Describe your personal style in a few words.
Kevin Charan: Classy but simple. My eyes are naturally drawn to neutral colors. I’d say my outfit choices reflect that I try to find a balance between causal and comfortable but still maintain something that is fresh.
CF: How do you make fashion functional since functionality is such an integral part of style in college?
KC: I pick outfits that are aren’t too complicated but at the same time are complete. Also, versatility is something I aim for in college. Like with this outfit I have on, even though I am dressed for class I would still feel comfortable wearing it out to a restaurant for dinner.
CF: What are some of your favorite items in your closet?
KC: I suppose you could say that I’ve got a collection of V-necks. I think they are a bit of a step up from your usual T-shirt. Though I like neutral colors sometimes its cool to have something a little more bold like as my purple V-neck. I’m almost always wearing the watch I have on today. It’s Fossil and I like the fact that its face is bit larger than usual because it makes it unique.
CF: What is one trend you just can’t seem to get on board with these days?
KC: Skinny jeans just aren’t my thing. That probably has a lot to do with the fact I value comfort in my clothing. I get that they are supposed to look fitted but I just think they seem restrictive and too tight.
How To: Channel this Fashionisto’s put-together vibe by opting for something other than jeans. Corduroy pants are great for cooler weather and it’s just a matter of time until those crisp autumn leaves begin to fall. A V-neck in pretty much any color would be a perfect addition to the look. I suggest adding a pair of classic Converse to pull everything together. Though they are sneakers, they aren’t the kind you’d likely find at the gym so go for it. Just keep in mind you never know who you are going to bump into at the library, so think comfortable as well as crisp.
