Ladies, do you ever feel like you try so hard to get dolled up, but it seems like guys can get away with the same jeans and T-shirt for days? Seems unfair, doesn’t it? Why should we be the eye candy and they get to slum it? Fortunately, men’s fashion has been on the rise lately, with more and more guys becoming conscious of their style and what impression they’re making with their clothes. But for the few guys out there that cling to their favorite hoodie like a security blanket, have no fear! Men’s fashion may seem to have two extremes: casual and formal. In reality, there are very stylish happy mediums! Just by tailoring your everyday favorites, you can be as comfy as usual, but feel as handsome as you do in a tux! Look how dapper this Fashionisto looks! Okay, maybe I’m a little biased (this Fashionista is my brother, after all,) but you can’t deny that this outfit would catch your eye if a guy was wearing it around your campus among the gym shorts and lax pinnies.
Name: Jonathan Mack
Major: Political Science
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and what is your favorite part of this outfit?
Jonathan Mack: This shirt is J.Crew, these shorts are from Gap and these shoes are Sperry Top-Siders. I really like these shoes. They’re comfortable, and I always get compliments on them.
CF: What are your favorite stores to shop at?
JM: J.Crew, American Eagle, Rugby. Anywhere where I can get some clean-cut shirts and broken-in shorts.
CF: What’s a current summer trend that you’d be willing to try out?
JM: Maybe short sleeve button-ups in a pattern. Sort of Dwight Shrute-esque, but do-able.
CF: What style advice would you give to fellow college students?
JM: There doesn’t have to be one way to dress. Find a look that works for you and makes you feel confident and wear the heck out of it.
How To: A good way to switch up your everyday wardrobe a little is to try something fitted rather than baggy. Trust me, it makes a world of difference. Try something simple and versatile like a chambray shirt. It goes with basically every color, so it’s a breeze to fit into your closet with buying a ton of new stuff to match it. Invest in khaki shorts as well. They look great dressed up with an oxford or dressed down with a vintage tee. And seriously, guys, get at least one pair of shoes that don’t have a Nike symbol on them. Boat shoes are so popular right now. They’re trendy and comfortable. How often does that happen?
