This Fashionisto is truly a man who does it all. Not only is he an extremely talented chef and loyal friend, he is a Fashionisto who you can always go to for style advice. We sat down with this Fashionisto to learn about his passions for food and fashion.
Name: Jake Cohen
Major: Culinary Arts Management
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Jake Cohen: I would say that I play the preppy gay Fashionisto pretty well—partly because I have to, partly because I absolutely love it. At my college, there is a strict business casual dress code throughout the school, so I go on a J.Crew shopping spree before each semester. Naturally, I love to look my best and whether I am in class or out, I find myself using various outfits and converting them to either be more formal for class or less formal for life.
CF: How do you transition a look from day to night?
JC: It all depends on the night. Most outfits can be changed by switching shorts to pants. I am lucky enough to now have as many colorful pants as I do shorts. The polo/button-down and Sperry Top-Siders combo can be easily transformed into an outfit for the night.
CF: What are your passions and how do they influence what you wear?
JC: I go to the Culinary Institute of America, so my true passion is cooking. I find that it transitions in my style through my love for colors. I like everything vibrant and matching, just like a plate of food would be. Recently, I have invested in as many colored dress pants as I can to help give my summer wardrobe a pop.
CF: Who are some of your fashion icons?
JC: I definitely have distinct opposites. In class, I strive to be a mix of Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl and Justin Timberlake in The Social Network. On the daily, however, I like to combine JFK realness and Lana Del Rey Americana. My boyfriend is the true Americana model though, so I’ll take JFK.
CF: What is your favorite article of clothing or accessory that you currently own?
JC: It has to be a tie (literally). I have a light purple skull and crossbones Alexander McQueen bow tie. It is perfection. Literally all I need is a white shirt and khakis and suddenly a rather boring outfit is so much cuter. The same goes for the pair of red loafers my boyfriend bought for me on Etsy. They are covered in huge studs. Though typically not my style, I like wearing them with a preppy outfit to make the look more fun and casual.
How To: Take this Fashionisto’s advice and try brightening you summer with pops of color and plenty of prints! A patterned shirt in a soft hue creates a color contrast and balance with J.Crew’s 5’’ dusty berry stanton shorts.
