A lot of guys in San Francisco dress to impress, and shopping these days is not just a female hobby. More males on campus groom their hair, make sure their clothes are tailored to perfection and slip on the finest pair of shoes. I am glad that men, especially in college, are keeping up their appearance and being more adventurous with their style. Before heading to the library to study, I approached a third-year student with unique accessories and bold taste in fashion. I asked him where he got his fresh ensemble and how guys can look put together and stylish just like him.
Name: Garrett Omi
Major: English Education
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Garrett Omi: I have kind of a bandana/scarf kind of feel going on and I’m wearing OAKLEY reading glasses. This dress shirt is from 7 Diamonds. These skinny jeans are from Hudson and these are some work boots from Caterpillar.
CF: What is your favorite season for style and why?
GO: My favorite season for style would have to be fall. I love fall because it’s that season when it’s not too hot or too cold. You can afford to really just wear a light jacket or accessorize and have fun. It’s not like summer when you put on too many accessories or too many layers and it becomes too hot. But then in the winter, you cover up too much. Fall kind of exhibits not only your style, but also your body type and shape.
CF: What is your favorite store to shop at?
GO: I don’t really have specific stores I like to go to. I work at Nordstrom, but other than that, I usually like to go thrift a lot. It really depends on the mood I guess. Designers are nice. Even sometimes I’m guilty of shopping at Urban Outfitters, but I don’t have a preference. I guess Nordstrom would be my main one though.
CF: What style advice would you give guys who want to dress up more?
GO: Don’t be afraid to try out new things. If you really like something or if you have a passion for a certain kind of style or time period, wear whatever you feel like you want to wear that defines your character. At the end of the day, it’s you that makes the product. It’s you that makes your own fashion. And honestly, if you don’t start your own trends and define your own character, everybody else will do it for you.
How to: Guys, are you ready to update your bland wardrobe? Just like this Fashionisto’s outfit, I recommend a crisp button-down shirt, buckled boots and cuffed, dark wash skinny jeans. Accessorize with a printed scarf and experiment with a coif hair style.
