Have you ever wondered why people are so much less happy after summer ends? I mean, yes, we understand the fact that students’ vacations end and they are tossed back into the grind, but why reflect that on your outfit? Why are people everywhere dressing gloomier? It is like style took a relapse into the mourning colors searching for a way to commemorate the loss of summer. Instead, why not celebrate the addition of fall?! This Fashionisto does it perfectly! He effortlessly allows prep and color to cohesively blend while preparing for the New England weather. While his purple shirt and light orange shorts reflect American Eagle Outfitters, his Sperry Top-Sider shoes add the classic style of prep and his watch contributes a personal touch. This Fashionisto stood out to me because I have lately been trying to see how college students are re-interpreting color for the colder seasons while still adding flair.
Name: Ben Rutan
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Ben Rutan: I would describe my style as preppy, but sometimes I try to switch things up and put on a more athletic style.
CF: What is your style inspiration?
BR: I guess I would have to say my girlfriend, since she is the one that picked out my outfit for today.
CF: What is one item that you love to add to an outfit to make it complete?
BR: Well, today for instance, I added the watch that I received from Christmas six years ago. It makes the outfit more sentimentally complete.
How To: Get this Fashionisto’s vibrant prep look by adding a colorful button down shirt and khakis or a neutral light color. Or if you are a Fashionista, then you can add a blouse of any shade with a black skirt for a more slimming appearance, or khaki for a more casual look. However, if you want to truly be daring in this autumn season, then try to go for a deeper hue of an already eye-catching color. Do not be intimidated just because summer is over, you can still have fun and wear what you want! You no longer have to let your outfit show your gloom! Be bold, be stylish, and most importantly be you!
