Nothing against all my Fashionista’s out there, but there’s nothing I love more than seeing a well-dressed guy around campus. From his knit sweater right down to the pair of suede shoes on his feet, I could tell this week’s Fashionisto knew a thing or two about style. I managed to stop him on his way to dinner to get to know him a little better!
Name: Adam Hooten
College Fashionista: I love your outfit, can you tell me what you’re wearing?
Adam Hooten: My green jeans are Levi’s, the shirt and sweater are from the guy’s section at Forever 21 and I got my shoes at the Van’s store.
CF: It’s no secret that the clothing options for guys are limited, can you tell me how you make yourself stand out?
AH: I usually rely on my girlfriend as my go-to for advice on what looks good. I also like to get things I don’t see many people wearing. Whether it’s a unique pair of shoes or a hat. I might look at some celebs’ style to get an idea on how to catch someone’s attention with what I’m wearing, too.
CF: Do you have a celebrity fashion icon?
AH: Definitely Ryan Gosling!
CF: What’s you favorite part about dressing for winter? Least favorite?
AH: I like that I get to dress up a bit and have some class, rather than wear shorts and a white v-neck every day. My least favorite part is dressing in layers. It’s hard keeping track of jackets and sweaters when you take them off after going inside somewhere. Also, jeans aren’t the most comfy thing to lounge around in while hanging out.
CF: What’s the most valuable piece of style advice you can offer?
AH: If you think it’s “you” and you like it, wear it!
How To: Adam’s combination of layering and colored denim give his look a casual sophistication that’s easy for any Fashionisto to achieve. Start with a pair of jeans in an interesting color. If green isn’t your thing, a dusty red is another color that will make any Fashionisto stand out. The key to staying warm is layers. A basic chambray shirt, like Adam’s, is the perfect piece to layer underneath a cozy knit sweater. Finally, trade in your normal sneakers for some suede boots for a more interesting take on footwear. Remember, everybody is crazy about a man who is sharply dressed.
