FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Sanlie Auyeung

Fashionista Spotlight

As another school year winds down to a close, most people are slouching around campus in a class outfit of sweats, sweats and more sweats. Not this Fashionista, who is just as dedicated as ever to looking fabulous — even the week before finals. I’m especially in love with her super-high black platforms and the gold accessories that just tie everything together in this look. Read on to see how this California girl makes her style work on the East coast!

Name: Sanlie Auyeung

Major: Political Science

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: I love your shoes. What else are you wearing today?

Sanlie Auyeung: I'm wearing my go-to black cardigan by Adrienne Vittadini, a taupe maxi dress with a barely-there zebra pattern (if you look closely) with a slight high-low hem to show off my shoes and Steve Madden platforms that are unexpectedly comfortable.

CF: What inspired this outfit?

SA: This outfit is what I'd wear on a perfect California spring day. Moving to Philly with its unforgiving East Coast weather and all the stresses of college life have really limited my usual fashion choices so this outfit was inspired by the things I had originally brought over, but never had the chance to wear.

CF: How would you describe your style?

SA: My style is pretty minimal. I've definitely gotten a lot more clean-cut and preppy since coming to Penn but I always stick to dark colors, comfy knits, classic accessories, some on-trend/edgy pieces and effective layering.

CF: Where do you find inspiration for other daily outfits at school?

SA: Catch me on a normal school day and I'm probably wearing head-to-toe black or a knit sweater with skinny jeans and boots. But my daily outfits are mainly inspired by what kind of mood I want to be in that day since clothes really do make a person. Also, my favorite fashion blogs never fail to give me great ideas.

CF: What’s one article of clothing or an accessory that you can’t live without?

SA: I usually can't live without my pearl earrings, but I'll have to learn how to because one of them just recently fell down the shower drain in my dorm.  Besides that, my American Apparel oversized cotton rib pocket cardigan is basically my second skin.

How to: Perfectly accessorize with just the right amount of gold. Different textures and finishes of gold metal jewelry can bring shine and excitement to an otherwise neutral outfit.
