FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Mariana Frias

Fashionista Spotlight

One of my all time favorite accessories to play around with is the scarf. Whether it is a tribal patterned scarf, a bold, bright colored scarf, or a huge fuzzy circle scarf, these strips of cloth can add just the right amount of personality to a super simple going-to-class outfit. That’s exactly how Mariana, this week’s campus Fashionista, amped up her comfortable look of dark jeans, a white tank and a neutral cardigan. On her feet she’s also wearing Original Sperry Top-Siders in the color Sahara. These boat shoes have definitely been trending all across the country right now, from the East Coast to the West. Mariana embodies the typical Penn student, who dresses in classic, basic pieces with little details like a unique scarf or some trendy footwear to modernize their look.

Name: Mariana Frias

Major: Economics/International Relations

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: How do you typically go about choosing your outfit for the day?

Mariana Frias: First, I check the weather. Then, I put on a pair of jeans I like and find a top to match. Finally, I put on a sweater or jacket, and I'm out the door headed to class!

CF: How would you describe your own particular style?

MF: I like to dress up sometimes, but normally I have a very relaxed, casual style.

CF: Where do you normally like to shop?

MF: I haven't done too much shopping here, but usually I go downtown to Center City. At home, I'll shop at my local mall. My favorite stores are probably Forever 21, H&M, American Eagle, Urban Outfitters and Gap.

CF: What's one accessory/article of clothing that you can't live without?

MF: I love scarves!

How To: Liven up a simple, neutral outfit with a patterned scarf accessory.
