When December rolls around, it brings the anticipation of Christmas with visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads. Unfortunately, the start of the month also brings with it the expectation of freezing temperatures. Despite most of my friends’ hopes for consistently cold weather every day, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could ditch my coat and walk comfortably in my T-shirt and maxi skirt even for just a couple of days. I spotted this Fashionista on one unseasonably warm day and she looked chic as can be in her dark-blue lace skirt from Forever 21 paired with a simple white tank top from Target, and tall boots from DSW. This Fashionista added turquoise bohemian glam earrings from Francesca’s and a bright scarf she got in Turkey to really maker her look stand out.

CollegeFashionista: Describe your personal style in three words.
Madison Langenbach: Versatile, comfortable and international.
CF: What is your favorite season to dress for and why?
ML: I love fall because you get to wear so many layers of stuff. You can basically keep a summer tank top out, but you can wear it under a button-up or a cardigan. I kept this skirt out because I’m going to wear it with tights and boots.
CF: If you could choose one person whose closet you could raid, who would it be and why?
ML: Zooey Deschanel. She has this whole cutesy 1950s thing going on. I wouldn’t wear her full looks but I’d take bits and pieces for more balance. It’s girly, but it’s not hot pink.
CF: What is one item in your closet you cannot live without?
ML: Probably a pair of leggings because you can always dress them up when you’re having a bum day.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, think of peeling an onion when removing layers to accommodate unexpected warm weather days. Lace has been a huge trend on both the runway and on campus this fall, so start with a dark lace skirt and pair it with a basic white tank top. Add a pair of tall boots for a preppy chic vibe that’s perfect for fall, and finish the look with a pair of colorful chandelier earrings and a big, bold scarf. To transition this look into winter, just add a pair of opaque black tights and a leather jacket and you’re all set to brave the cold.
