This week marks the beginnings of finals week at Bucknell University. This is a time when frazzled students begin to file into the library, caffeine begins to replace water as a drink of choice and students fight for winks of sleep between tests. Hopefully other Fashionistas out there haven’t given up on style yet and are hanging onto their fashion sensibilities as our lives are disrupted by exams. This Fashionista is a breath of fresh air in a sea of sweatpants, and proves that the unification of comfort and fashion is not a distant exploit. I was so impressed by her cozy and chic style I caught up to her to find out more about her style and motivations.
Name: Madeleine Armstrong
CollegeFashionista: What are three words that you would use to describe your style?
Madeleine Armstrong: The three words I would pick are classic, casual and feminine. I always try to find a combination of pieces that looks good together and looks good on me, it's about what works with your body type!
CF: Do you look up to any style icons?
MA: I think that Sarah Jessica Parker always looks fab on the red carpet and Coco Chanel.
CF: What is your favorite item in your closet right now?
MA: I love my big sweaters! I wear a new one everyday! But my over-the-knee boots always make my outfits come together.
CF: What are your favorite current trends?
MA: I love peplum dresses and skirts even though I don't often wear them and faux fur-lined jackets and scarves!
How To: A loose knit sweater is a must for every Fashionista because it is one of the most versatile items on the market. It can be easily transitioned from season to season and can be worn with almost anything. It’s not too hard to find your perfect one and don’t be afraid to pick one that reflects your own personal style. A lighter sweater with larger loops like this one from Free People will keep you warm on the cooler nights of summer, whereas a thicker version is a perfect winter piece. You can achieve a classic prep look reminiscent of Cher from Clueless by layering a sweater with a striped button-down shirt. With a loose knit sweater, the possibilities are endless.
