On a sunny autumn day in beautiful San Diego, it is important to always look and feel amazing. Our CollegeFashionista does just that by rocking a beautiful, teal, flowy dress and pairing it with some cute sandals and classic dangly gold earrings!
Name: Lucy Velasquez
Major: Business Marketing- Integrated Marketing Communications
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Lucy Velasquez: On this beautiful Tuesday, I am wearing a flowy, long, teal dress with a brown-netted belt and some gold jewelry. Matching teal flip flops added for extra comfort.
CF: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
LV: When I was a little girl, I always looked up to my mother and I remember thinking: “When I grow up, I want to have outfits just like hers!” My mother liked to dress her outfits up with some heels, which has definitely made an impact on my current style. She also was a huge fan of getting dressed up. I have that same longing for looking my best at all times. I would also have to say that I get some of my inspiration from nature, hence why I love all nature colors. I enjoy keeping my outfits full of color and excitement.
CF: What is your favorite thing to wear?
LV: I have to admit that my fashion style changes almost every year, but I have always had a passion for bright colors and dresses of any kind. So I always try to add as much color to my wardrobe as possible. However, I do have a bias for nature colors, so my closet is packed with teals, greens, blues and purples.
CF: What advice would you give to other Fashionistas?
LV: I would strongly advice to limit your shopping with credit cards as much as possible. I had to learn this lesson the hard way, and would encourage everyone to think very carefully about what they are buying before they do so. A good rule of thumb when shopping for new clothes is asking yourself, “Would I rather be wearing this outfit than the one that I came here in?” Also, f you don’t absolutely love what you see, then you absolutely should not be buying it. Practicality is key for me.
CF: What does fashion mean to you?
LV: Fashion represents a part of my personality. I love the fact that people have their own unique style. We all make our fashion choices every day. It’s all about feeling comfortable in your own outfit, no matter if others agree or not. It’s a great way to express your inner self.
CF: What is your favorite trend?
LV: My favorite of all time is gold jewelry. It does miracles for simple outfits and brings a spark to any top, dress, etc. My weakness is big gaudy jewelry. I cannot remember the last time that I didn’t wear earrings for a day.
CF: What is your go to date night ensemble?
LV: That's a tough question. It depends on whether it is a first date or later on in the relationship. It also depends on where you will be going that night. My usual go to outfit is skinny jeans and a cute top with wedges or heels (if the occasion calls for it). This outfit allows me to feel sexy, without giving me the feeling that I’m too dressed up.
How To: In order to get a look similar to this Fashionista's, combine brightly colored maxi dress with some super cute, classy jewelry, a unique, chique belt, a cute comfortable pair of sandals and a pair of some Southern Californian Ray-Bans! A cute purse or handbag always spices up an outfit. Don't forget to always be yourself!
