This Fashionista mixed up the fall go-to of rich, dark, colors with a super-cute neon plaid scarf. Her mix of comfort with preppy style made me want to know how to steal her look!
Name: Kelly Yu
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Kelly Yu: I am wearing a pair of plain black leggings with a black French Dressing tank and purple Ann Taylor cardigan. For accessories, I am wearing a multi-colored scarf from Pac Sun and my prescription Richard Taylor glasses. On my feet, I am wearing purple and gray argyle socks under brown Steve Madden combat boots.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
KY: I would say I dress very comfortably. In the fall and winter, my wardrobe consists mostly of oversized sweaters and sweatshirts, cardigans, scarves and leggings. I also like to wear blazers, shorts with tights and rompers. In the spring and summer, I dress similarly but a little more preppy. I like to wear a lot of fitted tops with light cardigans.
CF: Who do you look to for fashion inspiration?
KY: I don’t look to a specific person for fashion inspiration; I usually pick and choose what I like from different people’s wardrobes and see what looks good on me. I also mimic outfits that I see on shows like Pretty Little Liars and New Girl.
CF: What’s your fall/winter must have item?
KY: I would not have survived this fall without my combat boots. They are not only extremely comfortable, but they go with almost anything. When the weather is warmer, the leather breathes really well. When the weather is colder, I can layer wool socks or legwarmers underneath them to keep warm.
CF: How many times a day do you change outfits?
KY: I generally just change my outfit once or twice a day. If I dressed down a little for classes but have to go out later, I will change for that. Otherwise, I just make the change from what I wore that day to pajamas. My pajamas, however, are leggings and a big sweatshirt, so they can generally pass for simply a comfortable outfit.
CF: What fashion item can you not live without?
KY: I can’t live without wristlets. I have one of the Vera Bradley ones that have a phone pocket as well as a place to hang my keys and numerous pockets for cards and money. I also have a few traditional wristlets from Coach. They are really convenient because I can fit all my necessities in it, and if I need to carry a purse, I can just use my wristlets as wallets.
How To: Pull on leggings and a cardigan, and tie it all together with a bright scarf. Especially for petite girls, this visual trick draws the eye upward, giving the ilusion of more height.
