Fashionista Spotlight

Spring break is over, and a new quarter means new school supplies. As I was walking to the bookstore to purchase my spring quarter textbooks, I noticed this beautiful girl with candy colored hair sitting in front of Ex Libris casually smoking a cigarette. I wondering how I had never noticed her before, and then she mentioned that she just moved here from New York. I fell in love with her effortless style and she politely agreed to an interview.

Name: Karsyn deGast

Major: Illustration

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What influences your style?

Karsyn deGast: Marilyn Monroe-esque '50s glamour, along with the colors and laid-back feel of the '90s. And music.

CF: What is your go-to piece when getting dressed for class?

KG: Definitely a tie between patterned crop tops and high-waisted denim shorts.

CF: How does the fashion in Savannah compare to the fashion in New York?

KG: Layering and dark tones immediately come to mind when I think of New York. [There is] lots of color going on in Savannah, which I prefer especially for spring and summer.

CF: What other hairstyles have you tried and what would you like to try in the future?

KG: Jet black, strawberry red. Last year I went from long, beachy waves to a blunt chin-length brunette bob. Platinum blonde ringlets have been my favorite so far.

How To: Keep it casual by wearing black on black Vans canvas sneakers and skinny jeans. Bleach your hair to white and then add pastel colors to your head. Complete your look with the Little America backpack from Herschel Supply Co.
