With the popularity of menswear and the army-inspired trend, the rise of the military jacket and olive green colour palette can be seen all over campus. The over-sized fit is not only comfy, but is great to pair with almost anything. I spotted this Fashionista near the student centre looking cool in an army green coat, keeping warm and bundled up with a cozy scarf.
Name: Karizza Sanchez
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Karizza Sanchez: My style is very much influenced by menswear and, lately, sportswear. Fun fact: I have a number of pieces in my closet that look very similar to some of the things my brother / guy friends wear. I'm drawn to more minimalistic styles and classics over trendy things. I'd say the best way to describe my look is if Alexander Wang designed heritage clothing.
CF: What are some of your wardrobe staples?
KS: Three things: jewelry, a great leather bag and jackets.
CF: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
KS: It's hard to say. I sort of get it everywhere — Rihanna's style now is great for inspiration.
CF: Whose closet would you love to raid and why?
KS: The Olsen twins. I'd die to get my hands on all their vintage designer pieces. I think there's more value to something that has character. Plus, the Olsens are GODS.
CF: What are your favourite fall/winter trends this year?
KS: I don't know if I really have one. I stick to what I like and what works for me. Trends are great, but those things come and go. I think it's more about knowing what works and really editing your closet down to have your classics and then pieces that are just too awesome to pass up. That's what I sort of aspire to do.
How To: Start with an oversized military style jacket and a pair of jeans. Cuff your jeans to show off a great pair of black ankle boots. Then throw on a patterned scarf and add a large classic tote bag to carry around all your campus essentials. Finish off with a stylish pair of sunglasses.
