Comfort is hard to resist, as an obvious fashion disaster is at risk, but this Fashionista turned comfort into a fashionable statement. Finding a medium between comfort and fashion is key, when it's right, it results in splendid fashion as this Fashionista has executed. With simple pairings of a denim shirt and a vintage-inspired top, her personality shines through with the loud pops of colorful from her scarf. Creating happy fashion is always fun, and with the right pieces you can even make it comfortable for you, not just for the eyes of others.
Name: Kaleigh Marcotte
CollegeFashionista: What is your fashion philosophy?
Kaleigh Marcotte: Don’t be afraid to take risks with fashion. If you see a mannequin wearing an outfit you like, don’t take that whole look, but make it your own. Your style is your personality and that will always be the same, but by adding things to it can accentuate upon it.
CF: What is your favorite winter clothing item and why?
KM: I really love flannels and oversized shirts. They are so comfortable. You can dress them up or dress them down.
CF: Where do you like to shop?
KM: Urban Outfitters, Madewell and Free People — those are my favorites.
CF: How would you describe your style?
KM: Oh hard question! I would say it’s a combination of beachy and laid-back, but fun and feminine. I take a basic layer then add pieces – like the jean shirt I’m wearing now but I added this fun scarf. It’s really a mixture of everything. In short, I’d say beach comfortable with a pop of a fashion sense.
How To: Yes leggings! Finding a nice pair of leggings is a key wardrobe essential for a college student. J.Crew and BCBGMAXAZRIA carry leggings that are a camouflage as pants. Duck boots are a North Eastern phenomena as we never know what the weather has in store — fur boots, leather boots, moccasins and other stylish variations are fitting for this comfortable look. The main player of this outfit, though it is somewhat overpowered by the knit scarf, find a chambray shirt! This one is from Madewell, but you can find one at J.Crew and Urban Outfitters as well as many other stores. They are a great piece to any outfit and really contribute to that laid back feel. You can translate the shirt into a summertime look with white skinny jeans or add it as a top layer as this Fashionista did. As a hidden excitement, add on a graphic tee beneath it all to add some depth to the outfit. Choosing this layer is key because it is the base of your outfit. Stick with mellow tones for a more laid back feel, but if you are headed to make a louder statement, a more eye-catching backdrop will suffice. Lastly, add on the accessories! A fun colorful scarf or knit socks — whatever works for you and your style.
