One of the best reasons why we love fashion is because it's a form of self-expression. From a well-picked combination of clothes, we can almost always say something about its wearer — from likes and dislikes, to personality and character, and sometimes even the kind of lifestyle they live. Josie is one Fashionista who loves wearing outfits that reflect not just her personality, but even her day-to-day moods. This week, she shows her bubbly persona and happy disposition through her floral dress, knee high socks, and lace-up boots.
Name: Josie Lim
Major: Clothing Technology
CollegeFashionista: What is your style philosophy?
Josie Lim: Dress out of the box, be yourself and be comfortable at the same time. Experiment, be confident and have fun.
CF: What do you think your wardrobe says about you?
JL: I’m a garden! I have plenty of floral printed clothes. Kidding aside, I think the array of bright colors that are in my wardrobe means that I’m a really happy, positive person. But sometimes, I do wear grays and blacks if it suits my mood.
I’m also fond of layering, so I guess it means that I like putting together puzzles. I collect cardigans, vests and jackets so that I can play with layers if the weather permits it.
CF: What is one clothing item that you’d splurge on?
JL: A pair of comfortable, stylish heels that could be worn all day. They must be comfortable enough to wear while doing groceries, as well as for partying the whole night. I’m not tall, so heels would really boost my height, plus they can be worn to make a statement.
CF: If you were given a chance to exchange your life with a fashion icon, who would it be and why?
JL: Angelina Jolie. I admire the charity work she does. She may be tough on the movie screen, but she dresses up glamorously in red carpet events. She is one of the highest paid actresses, and she has a nice, big family, not to mention that she has Brad Pitt for a partner.
CF: Do you have any style rules to live by?
JL: Confidence is the key accessory to any outfit. It’s not the price tag that matters in being stylish; it’s how you wear your clothes. What’s the point of wearing something really expensive if it looks off on you? Love your body, and know how to flatter your assets and camouflage your flaws.
How To: To start off, choose a floral dress in bright and happy colors. This yellow and blue number by Vivienne Westwood is perfect for giving the hourglass shape as its fitted at the torso, but widens near the hips up to the hem. This pink and blue wrap dress from Topshop is perfect for those who want to convey a vintage retro feel. This white floral swing dress from Moschino is perfect for those who want to flaunt the arms and the chest area — the gathers give the illusion of a fuller bust. Then wear these knee high socks from Steve Madden paired with maroon lace-up boots from Dr. Martens.
