FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Barbara Kim

Fashionista Spotlight

The holidays are coming up! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is tomorrow? Have you thought about what you are going to wear? As Fashionistas, I figured that you may already have purchased your dress. If not, you should buy a lace dress! This Fashionista accessorize her dress with a pair of jeweled sandals and hippy style sunglasses. Even though her approach is a little bit more casual, you can defintially take this dress and dress it up for the holidays.

Name: Barbara Kim

Major: Political Science

Year: Freshmen

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where did you get it from?

Barabara Kim: This is a lace dress from Forever 21. My sunglasses are thrifted and my shoes are from my sister.

CF: Are a lot of your clothes from your sister or other family members?

BK: Yeah, my sister buys a lot of my clothes. We go shopping together.

CF: Is there anything that you are looking forward to wearing this fall?

BK: Not really, I mean boots in general. I like riding boots. I think they are so cute. Also, leather jackets.

CF: Do you think living in Florida influences your style? And if not, what state do you think is more like your style?

BK: No, not really because Florida style is more laid back and I’m not really like that. I love California like L.A. style.

CF: Is there something in your closet that you cannot live without?

BK: My black lace jacket. It’s thrifted!

How To: Impress your family with this amazing Milly lace dress from Rent The Runway. Rent The Runway is amazing when you want to wear an elborate fashion item for a fraction of the price! I suggest adding some sparkle with this pebbled foil jacket from Anthropologie. Instead of sandals, switch it to heels for the holidays and a necklace. Trust me, with this outfit, grandma will be impressed!

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Barbara Kim

Fashionista Spotlight

Locust Walk, or, as some say: the heart of Penn, is where I tend to spot a majority of Fashionistas. Whether they are walking to class or meeting a friend in front of Huntsman, I’m constantly inspired to get to know the stylish people at Penn. Today was no different. When I noticed Barbara’s low-key, casual outfit (with understated black and neutrals with that fabulous black fur vest layered on top) I knew I had to get this Fashionista’s opinion of where and what to shop for.

Name: Barbara Kim

Major: Finance and Marketing

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: I love your fur vest; where did you get it?

Barbara Kim: I got my fur vest in Seoul, Korea!

CF: How would you describe your general style?

BK: I usually love matching simple blacks and grays, but I'll always add few points such as gold accessories, a fur jacket or something leopard patterned. I don't like to add too many extras but when I do, they will always be coordinated.

CF: Where are you from? Have you always dressed like this during the winter?

BK: I was born in Paris, but have lived in both Seoul and Canada so my style is a mixing and matching of different cultures. I don't always dress like this during the winter but the theme tends to be very “black and chic with a point”.

CF: If you could shop at only one store for the rest of your life (for clothing, shoes and accessories), which would you choose?

BK: Hmm this is a very hard question. I think I'd have to go with this boutique store in Seoul that I always go to — they always carry the most unique style that I cannot find anywhere else! I love it there because they have such a variety of clothes that I don't think many other people own.

How To: Make a subtle look stand out. Like Barbara said, all you have to do is add some bold accessories or that one bold piece you've wanted to flaunt but haven't had the guts. Keep everything else very neutral and understated and work that statement accessory, jacket or whatever you like.
