Call me crazy, but this time of year is my absolute favorite. This is the one time, after stressfully cramming for midterms, that we are given a free pass to just enjoy every aspect of the fall season. It’s now socially acceptable to inhale anything pumpkin-flavored, overdose on candy corn and watch Hocus Pocus for the 100th time. While I do love a mid-October pumpkin spice latte and a Halloweentown re-run, I get more excited about this time of year because of all the rich colors that start to resurge. Gorgeous jewel tones make their shining debut at this point, teasing us while giving a glimpse of the holiday season that’s right around the corner. I noticed this Fashionista rocking an emerald green skirt, looking dainty and pristine while strolling downtown on a weekday afternoon. She shows us all how to incorporate some striking cold-weather hues into our transitional (and sometimes dull) fall wardrobes.
Name: Annie Kitch
College Fashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Annie Kitch: Growing up, my family had a very classic sense of style that incorporated a lot of neutral colors. Now that I am in college I have been able to branch out into more contemporary clothing that fits my age. Usually I blend the two styles by adding simple brown leather items with current fashions.
CF: What is your favorite look for fall?
AK: One of my favorite fall looks usually includes a denim button-down. I love when it's paired up with a beige coat and black denim! Sweater dresses are also a great fall look because they can be dressed up or down!
CF: How do you alter your wardrobe for the colder weather while still staying stylish?
AK: What keeps me from buying a completely different wardrobe for each season are tights and boots. This way I can wear some of my skirts and dresses rather than just pants.
CF: Where are your favorite places to shop on a budget?
AK: Whenever I am in a pinch and I have the chance, I always run into Buffalo Exchange in Phoenix. I have also found that H&M is a perfect place to get more up to date styles at a cheaper price. In Flagstaff I usually follow all of the local stores on Facebook so I can stay updated on current sales!
How To: Rock a regal, color-rich ensemble like this Fashionista’s by keeping it simple and ladylike. Start with an eyelet lace top, layered over a neutral tank and paired with a classic pair of pearl earrings. Sport a colorful statement piece, like this Fashionista’s emerald skirt, and it’ll be sure to turn some heads. Add some equestrian flavor by pairing your getup with some ancient auburn leather riding boots and a satchel to match. Whether you’re searching through Goodwill for the perfect Halloween costume or on your way to an afternoon coffee date, sporting jewel tones is a fail-proof way to welcome the holiday season—and look stylish doing it!
