Exams have concluded and most students at The University of Alabama are now in their proverbial hometowns soaking in all that the holiday season has to offer. Preparing for the holidays can prove to be exhausting with meals to plan, gifts to wrap and countless parties to attend. This Fashionista exhibits a great “last-minute-Christmas-shopping” look that can go from an afternoon at the mall to a festive holiday party without changing a thing.
Name: Anna Bouska
Major: Health Care Management
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where did you get it?
Anna Bouska: My patterned top is from Forever 21, the grey blazer and pants are both from Urban Outfitters and my purse and boots are Steve Madden. My necklace is from a boutique in London and my bracelet is Lucky Brand.
CF: How would you describe your personal style and where do you find your fashion inspiration?
AB: I would describe my style as eclectic and slightly vintage boho. I love mixing things that have been handed down to me or that I've found at thrift stores with newer items to look more put-together. Some of my favorite things in my closet are old, oversized plaid flannels of my moms from when she was in college or her old concert t-shirts. My two favorites are her Fleetwood Mac and Kansas T-shirts that she got at concerts in the '70s. Being the typical broke college kid, I love saving money and procrastinating. Because I lack money to buy new clothes, I am forced to take chances and try new ways to wear the clothes I already have in order to have new outfits. Also, since procrastinating is a problem of mine, Pinterest gives me style ideas as well.
CF: What is your go-to holiday look this season?
AB: I guess it depends on the occasion. I'm picturing myself wearing either something really simple like a dress with pumps and a blazer, or going for lots of layers if the occasion is more casual. I love being cozy during the winter because I am always cold. I have way too many leg warmers, long boot socks, hats and scarves. So now I get a chance to wear them all.
CF: What is on your holiday wish list?
AB: I have plenty of basics in my closet, which is great for layering, but with my Christmas money I'd like some nicer tops that I don't have to add a cardigan or long necklace to. I've also had my eye on a pair of gold skinny jeans from Urban Outfitters
How to: This Fashionista exemplifies versatility by swapping out the normal dark denim with a festive pair of red skinnies from Urban Outfitters and adding a blazer to jazz up an already adorable peplum top from Forever 21. A blazer is a great way to dress up an outfit, but remain cool and casual in an Alabama winter. Rebecca Minkoff has a gorgeous maroon blazer perfect atop your favorite holiday go-to LBD or black skinnies/band t-shirt combination. Her black boots and shoulder bag, which can be purchased online at stevemadden.com, are great on-the-go accessories when mobility is key. We all know how easily an uncomfortable shoe can sabotage an otherwise successful shopping trip.
