In true Flagstaff weather fashion, there’s not a snow cloud in sight and we’re somehow singing our Christmas carols in shorts and sandals. Despite the fact that we’re now well into the month of December, the weather outside is far from frightful and I couldn’t be more excited to dress for a holiday in the sun! While I do love some chunky winter layers and a fresh pair of riding boots, being able to sport some of my favorite summer staples as I attend a dozen ugly sweater parties definitely keeps me cheerful. I spotted this edgy Fashionista on her way to study as we both grabbed a pre-finals coffee on campus. She shows us all how to dress perfectly trendy and bright for the sunny Southwest holiday season!
Name: Alix Dooley
Major: Merchandising with a minor in Business
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Alix Dooley: I can’t really describe my style in a few words; but I would probably say it’s comfy, funky and kind of different.
CF: Where are your favorite places to shop on a college budget?
AD: I love to shop the Urban Outfitters online sales! I can always seem to find good things online and at the local stores in Flagstaff that don’t completely break my budget.
CF: What is your signature look for the winter?
AD: I really love big, comfy sweaters for the winter! I like to pair them with skinny jeans or overs some shorts and tights. They make a great accessory and they’re super warm and effortless.
CF: What is the fashion item at the top of your Christmas list this year?
AD: I really want a vintage turquoise bracelet. I wear a lot of turquoise and other funky jewelry so I think a cool bracelet like that would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe.
How To: Rock a truly hipster-chic winter ensemble by piling on some signature Arizona staples. My personal favorite look for colder months—mini shorts layered over some sheer tights is a fun and quirky way to incorporate your favorite pair of cutoffs into your December wardrobe. Layer a cropped, printed blazer over a basic black tank and your look instantly becomes more sophisticated and interesting. Sport some suede booties and a bold turquoise necklace, and you’ll be sure to turn some heads as you complete all your holiday shopping!
