This Fashionista effortlessly caught my eye with her sleek, monochromatic outfit (alongside her was last week’s Fashionista, Jin). Her black knit cardigan and black midi skirt elongates her body, giving off a very sophisticated and elegant look. While sophisticated, this Fashionista still portrays a youthful look with her leather backpack. Finishing off her simplistic ensemble, the Fashionista adds a pair of perfectly faded Chelsea boots.
Name: Yuki Barton
Major: Fashion Communications
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Yuki Barton: My sweater is OAK + FORT. [My shirt] is just Forever 21. [My] boots and skirt are both from H&M. My backpack is Matt and Nat, a Montreal brand. It’s vegan leather.
CF: Would you say that the Ryerson campus has influenced your style at all, and how so?
YB: Well, because I’m in the fashion program, so many girls around me dress really well. It’s pretty inspiring. There’s some bloggers out there that are in my program and really dress nicely, so I definitely look up to them style wise.
CF: Do you keep up with fashion blogs?
YB: Yeah, like Fashion Toast. I really like Rumi Neely. I like We The People Style as well as Man Repeller. Just the main ones.
CF: What style icons inspire you?
YB: I honestly don’t look at celebrities very much. To be honest, nobody really pops into my head. Really casual people, like Jessica Alba, I know always have nice clothes.
CF: What trends are you looking forward to for fall/winter 2013?
YB: I love scarves and layering. I usually layer sweaters over jackets or cardigans—and boots!
Hint: Want to copy this flawlessly simplistic style? Pair a basic grey tank top with a black midi skirt that hits just below the knee. Add on a loose knit cardigan, perfect for the fall and winter temperatures. Bind this outfit together with a pair of leather ankle boots and a chic leather backpack.
