Welcoming a brand new wardrobe is possibly one of the most exciting aspects of the changing season, and the transformation from the fall season to the winter is no exception. From the cable knits and the light scarves that mandate autumn, somber color shades such as grays and navys tend to be the favorites for the snowy days.
However, this Fashionista seemed to be an exception. Making it no secret that she was ready and awaiting the spring season, she turned heads on the streets of Toronto in her tastefully composed ensemble, consisting of maroon accents — a less than familiar complement to her clean cut baby pink peacoat and a pair of matching trousers, rounded off with on-trend metallic booties, making for a fashion forward look. She is after all the president of University of Toronto’s Fashion Networking Organization!
Name: Victoria Menechella
College Fashionista: Love this look! Where can I find the pieces that you’re wearing?
Victoria Menechella: Thank you! My coat is Topshop, trousers are from ASOS along with my scarf. My sweater is an old Aritzia purchase and booties from Zara. As for my jewelry, my ring is from Club Monaco and the necklace is from NASTY GAL.
CF: So how would you describe your personal style?
VM: I would say my style is trendy. I don’t exactly have a distinct style, I just like to follow what is current and I like to make it my own. I look to people such as Olivia Palermo for style inspiration and I love how she mixes high street with luxury wear. I love my ensemble today because it combines a girly color with a bit of an edgy vibe!
CF: So, where do you tend to shop the most?
VM: I shop online a lot! ASOS, Missguided and Revolve are probably my favorite! But besides that, I love to shop at outlet department stores because who doesn’t love a great bargain buy especially on jeans and shoes? I also love to shop at Topshop because it is always caught up with the latest trends and not too many people in Canada know about it. And of course, Club Monaco is too one of my favorites. They always have timeless and well-fitted pieces that are essential to have in your wardrobe.
CF: Are there any trends you wouldn’t sport?
VM: Of course! I think my personal biggest fashion faux-pas would have to be asymmetrical skirts! And one of my biggest fashion pet peeves would be people who only shop from one store and wear only that. Fashion is about finding your own style and mixing and matching what the market has the offer!
CF: What about your winter favorites?
VM: Even though I am awaiting the spring, I do love coats! They are the main focal point of a winter outfit so having a stylish one is important! I do love booties though too, and Iike to transition them into the spring too by pairing them with a nice dress!
How to: Love her look? Check out a similar blush pink coat or structured yellow coat, pastels are great for the upcoming season. Want to be different and try out a color palette outside your comfort zone? Perhaps start off with a navy blue and black ensemble! For the spring, try out this navy jumpsuit and pair it with this long, duster coat. Accessorizing with color is key here, if you’re wearing something dark, either complement with something significantly brighter such as this pink headband or something in a similar color scheme but not necessarily complementary. For example, if you’re wearing an all-black outfit, perhaps try out brown ankle boots or gray bowler hat for a casual look. For something more formal, metallics are always on trend, like these silver strappy heeled sandals or this jacquard jacket.
