For some strange reason, I have always preferred to wear a pair of shorts over a skirt. Call me a tomboy if you must, but while walking in cities such as Austin, New York and Houston I have found it easier to look fashionable whilst sporting a pair of shorts and flowy top instead of a girly skirt. And after I saw this Fashionista walking around in the Texas heat, I knew that my inclination to wear shorts over a skirt could be justified — a pair of flowy shorts that appear to the common eye as a short skirt are the best new way to dress for the Texas heat.
Name: Tori Maidenberg
Major: Plan II and Middle Eastern Studies
CollegeFashionista: If you could describe your style in one word what would it be?
Tori Maidenberg: I would say neo-bohemian because I love flowy and loose clothes, but I like to wear them in such a way where I do not look like a “hippie” per say.
CF: What are the three stores that you cannot live without?
TM: Nordstrom, Anthropologie and Zara. Mixing the different styles from each store allows me to build a very refined wardrobe that is chic and on-trend.
CF: What item will you not travel without this summer?
TM: My sunglasses and a good pair of shorts that I can dress up or down. I would never leave my house without my sunglasses.
How To: This Fashionista pairs these pale pink eyelet shorts with a lightly hued chambray button-down from Madewell. Instead of opting for a normal pair of shorts, look for a skort or a pair of shorts that appear like a skirt for a more elegant summer look that is comfortable.
