FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Tina Huang

Fashionista Spotlight

I’m a big fan of vibrant colors because they brighten up the mood and show our personalities. However, sometimes the black and white combo can be more powerful than a colorful look. This classic mix shows a sharp contrast that no other colors can compare— it is both classy and chic. Providing an edge to your outfit, the use of black and white is simple yet catchy. Also, this look is an absolute no-brainer. You don’t need to worry about how pairing red and green makes you look like a Christmas tree, or how integrating orange into yellow is an abomination. Honestly, the black and white look is so timeless there’s no way to mess it up. One way to polish your monochrome palette is by incorporating patterns. Polka-dots are perfect, but stripes are more fun. While zebra prints draw attention, stripes tend to keep it casual. In other words, stripes are sassy with a retro spin! Trust me — black and white stripes are your new buddy.

Name: Tina Huang

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing, and where is it from?

Tina Huang: I’m wearing an animal graphic shirt, a white cardigan and striped shorts. All of them are from H&M, and the shoes are from Converse.

CF: What inspired your outfit today?

TH: I got the top online a couple days ago, so I paired it with shorts—my shorts go with basically everything. I chose this cardigan because it’s sustainable.

CF: Where do you usually shop?

TH: I go to H&M and American Apparel a lot, but Topshop is my favorite. For local stores, I go to Crossroads Trading Co. downtown and SwayChic on Telegraph Ave.

CF: What is your style, and where do you get your inspiration?

TH: I’d say my style is simple and casual. I go for different styles, and do whatever I want in the spring and summer. My style inspiration mostly comes from Instagram and outfits I see online. Also, Blake Lively inspires some of my looks.

CF: What is a trend you never tried?

TH: I’ve never tried the bodysuit. To be honest, I’m not sure if it goes with me.

How To: To replicate this Fashionista’s look, start with a pair of striped shorts, put on a graphic shirt and then throw on a white cardigan. Lastly, put on a pair of black Converse, and you are good to go!
