While summer invites subtle pastels and punchy neons, it also accommodates the universally flattering color: black. Just because the sun’s out doesn’t mean the black pieces in your wardrobe must remain in your closet. This Fashionista knows how to rock a black ensemble on (yet another) sunny California day.
Name: Teresita Campama
CollegeFashionista: Describe your style.
Teresita Campama: It definitely varies. I like black a lot because I feel like it goes with a lot of nighttime stuff if you want to dress it up, and then in the day time it kind of goes with everything. I like the bohemian look a lot but then I like street too; it just definitely depends on whatever I’m feeling that day.
CF: What inspired your outfit today?
TC: Again, I love black. But this jacket just kind of goes with everything so I like it for that reason because I can dress it up or down. And then the flip flops kind of make it a little bit more casual and it brings in the pop of brown which I have in my belt.
CF: Speaking of belts, what is your favorite accessory?
TC: My favorite accessory is probably…if shoes count as an accessory definitely a good pair of shoes—I’m obsessed with shoes.
CF: Who’s your favorite shoe designer?
TC: I love Chanel shoes and Louis Vuitton even though I can’t afford them right now. And then Jeffrey Campbell shoes are always a good go-to—they have some good shoes.
CF: What’s your favorite summer trend?
TC: I think long dresses and long skirts are nice just cause you can pair it up with anything—a cute jacket or a nice vest—and it makes you look bohemian and cute, and it’s airy without having to wear shorts all the time.
How To: This Fashionista makes her black, daytime ensemble summer appropriate by incorporating subtle pops of color. Her brown belt and the brown buckle detailing of her flip flops help break up the black, while the cream in her jacket brightens up her look. When wearing a predominately black outfit during the summer, add a little color for a playful, summer twist. This Fashionista dons a bold, turquoise ring along with her mint nails for a fresh burst of color. If you’re into beauty, try a bright lip. Love accessories? Carry a colorful bag or rock a pair of colored shoes. Allow your black garments to come out and play in the sun, just remember to bring along a few colorful pieces (white counts too)!
