A crop top is one clothing item that I would never think to wear to class, but after seeing this Fashionista’s outfit, I would recommend this style to anyone. This week’s Fashionista paired black harem pants with an adorable printed racerback crop top for a springtime ensemble that is as comfortable as it is fashionable.
Name: Taylor Timpson
Major: Graphic Design
CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit today.
Taylor Timpson: These are black harem pants from H&M, a navy and pink floral racerback crop top from Forever 21 and woven flats from a little boutique at my mall. I’m also wearing a bunch of my Alex and Ani bangles.
CF: How would you describe your style?
TT: I’d say my style is more on the artsy or hipster side. I like to mix staples with an edgy or vintage piece to make my outfits more interesting and unique. My mood and the weather definitely influence what I wear though. If it’s a sunny spring day I tend to wear florals or pastels and dress more on the girly side.
CF: Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
TT: I can usually rely on Forever 21 and H&M to have some different-looking pants and staple shirts that I can pair with anything. I like going into random stores every once in a while to get something that I know people won’t have. I also love Nordstrom’s junior section called Brass Plum because I can always find a unique shirt or jacket!
CF: What is one item that is next on your shopping list?
TT: I’d love to own a pair of gladiator sandals that lace up the shins. They look so edgy and cool when people wear them in the spring and I feel like they’d go well with some of the pieces I have!
CF: If you could raid any celebrity’s closet, whose would it be?
TT: Although she is a little too daring at times I would love to raid Miley Cyrus’ closet. I admire the way that she layers her clothes and is always trying out new looks. I’d love to be able to change my look day to day and pull it off like she does.
How To: Try experimenting with prints and solids when sporting harem pants. Either pair funky patterned pants with a solid crop top, or vice versa. If you don’t feel comfortable in a crop top, try wearing a fitted T-shirt tucked into your harem pants so that you can still flatter your waistline. Add a denim jacket, as this Fashionista does, to make your outfit functional on a chillier spring day.
