FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Taylor Matonak

Fashionista Spotlight

On a day where the temperature is surprisingly warm and the air is fresh, this Fashionista shows how to wear an outfit that is perfect for the transitional time period between winter and spring. Her floral blouse would be perfect with white shorts and wedges in the spring, but for now its deeper colors and long sleeves make it a perfect complement to her black skinny jeans. She takes advantage of the slightly warmer day as an opportunity to expose her feet by wearing flats instead of boots. The sock bun atop her head and her natural-looking makeup allude perfectly to light and pleasant spring days to come.

CollegeFashionista: What inspires your style the most?

Taylor Matonak: I definitely get inspiration from the Internet! Either looking up celebrity styles, stalking Pinterest or just browsing through trendy websites, it’s easy to find myself lusting over outfits (and usually giving into the temptation to buy)!

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?

TM: At the moment, definitely my winter jacket! Since the weather has been so cold recently, I find myself wearing it all the time. I still want to be stylish while staying warm! Ironically, I got it on sale at Target. Style doesn’t have to be expensive!

CF: If you won the lottery and could buy any piece/accessory, what would it be and why?

TM: Up until Christmas, it was Burberry rain boots, but now I would die for a Louis Vuitton bag!

CF: What is one trend or piece that you avoid?

TM: I’ve never really been a fan of boyfriend jeans. Personally, I don’t think I could ever pull it off!

How To: To pull off an outfit that could easily be transformed to be appropriate for winter or spring, start with black pants or jeans. Put on a blouse in a floral print, but in rich hues that are still appropriate for the winter. If it’s still pretty chilly where you are, put a nude-colored camisole or tank top on underneath your blouse. Remember that this is a transitional outfit! Slide into a classic pair of black ballet flats, or tall black boots if the day is more winter than spring, and your look is tied up with ease. Do not be afraid to try the sleek sock bun, it makes the look even more polished and can be easily created with a little hairspray and some bobby pins.
