This Fashionista is a favorite on campus for her style of dress and her personality. She is loved by many. She is a proud Chicago native who loves to create things and is a bit of a book worm. She has known that she could replicate expensive clothing looks for much less from an early age and hasn’t stopped since. She is one of the creators of UpCycle, a company that crafts new, fashionable and environmentally friendly garments and accessories from old clothing to help the Fashionistas of the world become eco-friendly and unique. The site will soon be up and running via this link. When she graduates, she hopes to be in the international development field.
Name: Tayler Ulmer
Major(s): Anthropology, Sociology and International Studies
CollegeFashionista: Where do you normally shop?
Tayler Ulmer: I usually shop at thrift stores, or wherever is the cheapest.
CF: How has Spelman College influenced our style if any?
TU: I am so inspired by my Spelman sisters, but I am mostly influenced by the mood that I am in for the day. I am a firm believer that clothing is a representation of your mood. Every day my mood changes and so does my style.
CF: What is a staple item of your wardrobe?
TU: A staple item is a white T-shirt. It goes with everything!
CF: Who is currently your favorite style icon?
TU: I really love Kim Kardashian’s style.
CF: If you were on the red carpet, what would you wear?
TU: A plain, sexy backless scoop dress. I think the most simple dresses are the most stunning and beautiful.
How To: To recreate this colored striped maxi dress look, try this Old Navy red and white striped dress. Tayler has on nude sandals with this dress. For another footwear option, these shoes to wear with this would be like stars and stripes of the American flag. They’re cute and very trendy this season. Like Tayler you can also wear a gold malleable necklace with this outfit to add your own “twist” to it.
