As busy college students, we never know who we may see or what the day will have in store. This Fashionista has mastered the on-the-go lifestyle, seeing as she is the senior class president and a volunteer in the Theater Department’s costume shop. To combat life’s unpredictability, she has found that dressing in layers, building a wardrobe of interchangeable pieces and investing in a good handbag are the best solutions.
Name: Susie Larson
Major: Communication Studies and English Literature
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Susie Larson: I am wearing Clarks booties from Nordstrom, black LOFT pants, a cheetah print belt, a pink cardigan from J.Crew, a button-up from H&M, an Alex and Ani bangle and my necklace is from a little boutique in Holland, Michigan.
CF: What are some things you would say that every wardrobe should include?
SL: I think every young woman’s wardrobe should have at least one quality handbag, along with a pair of black and nude flats. I am a huge advocate for “go with everything” accessories when it comes to items such as to shoes and bags.
CF: Where do you look for inspiration regarding your style choices?
SL: I look pretty much everywhere! On a daily basis, my look relies on what I’ll be doing and who I’m going to see that day. Overall, both of my grandmothers have influenced my style more so than any Vogue I’ve subscribed to. After going on shopping trips with them since I was little, they have taught me that fit is the most important factor and pieces that have a classic cut will stand the test of time.
CF: If you could have any celebrity’s style whose would it be and why?
SL: I appreciate Kourtney Kardashian’s attempt at a funky-chic style. Her style choices are applicable to my life in multiple ways. Not only are we are around the same size, but she is a mom, so she is always on the go like I am as a college student. I would also choose Reese Witherspoon. She has a great, traditional style in my opinion.
CF: What trends are you most excited for this spring?
SL: I cannot wait to no longer have to wear a jacket. Also, I’m so excited for color more than anything this spring! Winter has been so long here in South Bend that I have been playing around with the idea of purchasing a statement coat for next year. But more than anything, I cannot wait to be able to wear more skirts and dresses. I am not a big pant or shorts girl in the summer months. The ease that a dress lets you have is perfect. You can just throw one on and go.
How To: H&M has a great selection of cardigans that are perfect for layering over a plain white T-shirt or sheer blouse. Add accessories, like a watch or handbag, that not only add style to your outfit but optimize your productivity for the day.
