Fashionista Spotlight

Most students aren’t exactly rich, which for us Fashionistas and Fashionistos is sometimes tricky because we have to look great on a budget. Thrift shops and second-hand stores are great places to not only find unique pieces, but they won’t hurt your wallet either. You can even sell your clothes to most of these places to make a little extra cash and save up for that bikini you’ve been eyeing for summer. This week’s Fashionista proves that looking great doesn’t have to be pricey.

Name: Stephanie Eatherly

Year: Graduate Student

Major: International Studies

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Stephanie Eatherly: My shoes are from a vintage store in Nashville, which is where I’m from. These tights are from Target. I just got this dress from a clothing swap. My friend gave me this jacket, and my mom gave me this bag. My sunglasses are actually from Whole Foods where I work. I think my entire outfit cost around 30 dollars. I’m super frugal.

CF: Where do you typically shop?

SE: Goodwill or Salvation Army. I like to buy dresses, usually A-line because those work well with my body type, crazy tights and anything comfy.

CF: What is your favorite thing in your closet right now?

SE: I have this jacket I bought in 2007. It’s a letterman jacket that I got in the Netherlands. It has a 56 on one side and an E on the other side. It’s cool because my dad was born in 1956.

CF: If you could raid any celebrity’s closet who would it be, and why?

SE: Definitely Zooey Deschanel or Mindy Kaling. I feel like Zooey on New Girl and I have the same style. I used to have her hairstyle and glasses, and I feel like she was probably inspired by me. Mindy can wear whatever and look amazing.

CF: What are you excited to wear this spring?

SE: I’m from Tennessee so I love summer dresses and spaghetti strap dresses. I can’t wait until the sun comes out so I can wear them everyday.

CF: What should every Fashionista have in her closet?

SE: Black combat boots, a good cardigan, preferably with a cute pattern on it and your favorite soft V-neck T-shirt.

CF: How would you describe your style?

SE: Eclectic. I will pretty much wear whatever I find that grabs my eye.

How To: A bold graphic print dress is a great item to have in your closet this spring. Try one that fits your personality and style and dress it for day or night. For the day, add a jean jacket like our Fashionista or a simple cardigan that you can really accessorize. Grab a pair of sandals or booties, and complete your day look with sunglasses and a great bag for school. For a nighttime look, swap the denim jacket for a kimono or colored leather jacket and a cocktail ring and a bright lip for an eye-catching look that’ll look expensive and hip.
