As summer creeps closer and the thought of being completely done with classes start to fill the brains of most college students, our sartorial choices start to reflect our loss of focus in class. Many Fashionistas default into a uniform of crop tops and jean shorts for an outfit that can take them from class, to the pool and then to the party they are planning on hitting later that night. While these outfits are cute and most certainly functional, they become very boring very quickly. Seeing a Fashionista stand out by wearing an outfit that is as put together as it is cute to class is extremely refreshing. I had to stop this Fashionista to see where she gets her impeccable sense of style from!
Name: Silvia Wong
Major: Communication Studies
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Silvia Wong: I love going for classic, polished and neutral looks inspired by Club Monaco, but at the same time, I like playing with prints or having a bright splash of color here and there. It really depends on my mood.
CF: Who is your style icon?
SW: Jessica Alba! Whether she is picking up her kid or strutting down the red carpet, she nails every look. I absolutely loved her black cropped sweater and pink chiffon midi skirt outfit at the Ralph Lauren show last fall. So chic and classy!
CF: What is the summer trend you are looking forward to most?
SW: I am super excited to try rocking an all-white ensemble. I think it will be a very sleek and fresh summer look.
CF: What is the one item of clothing you can’t live without?
SW: High-waisted jeans or high-waisted anything really— I honestly don’t think I can survive without them. They are such a versatile item. I can dress them up with a tucked-in blouse, or down with a crop top. They’re perfect for any occasion.
How To: Getting this Fashionista’s look, is all about dressing down structured separates to create an outfit that is nicely put together, but not too fussy for a day of running from class to class. Center your outfit around a structured skirt or skort if your are feeling really daring, like this one, from MNG by Mango. Next, throw on a button-down shirt that is fitted but in a silky and light fabric to contrast, and relax the shape of your skirt. Accessorize the outfit by adding a super chic pair of espadrille flats and your go-to tote bag, and you will be sure to look focused even if you really are daydreaming of what you will do with that glorious expanse of free time that we call summer.
