This Fashionista’s metallically adorned satchel and camouflage top caught the light and my attention from way down the street. She had a few tips on how to make it to an early class looking and feeling golden.
Name: Sijia Ye
CollegeFashionista: How do you manage your time to dress well and still get to that 8:30 morning class?
Sijia Ye: I actually plan most of my outfits the night before. I like to get as much sleep as I can, so that way I can wake up, throw it on and get to class on time. It saves rushing in the morning, and I have some time to think about what I want to wear.
CF: Is getting dressed for the day something you enjoy?
SY: I really do enjoy dressing. I look forward to it, that’s part of the reason I plan it the night before. I can come up with something I’m really excited to wear so sweatpants are never an option!
CF: How do you handle the cold weather in Montreal?
SY: I love winter, it’s actually my favourite season so I don’t mind the cold. I do really hate wearing my down coat though because it hardly looks good with anything. I have a lot of different coats that I like to wear instead. They’re still warm but they have more shape so they look better.
CF: What would you say is a staple wardrobe item you couldn’t live without?
SY: I need a little black in my outfits. I wear something black most days because you can’t go wrong with it. Black goes with everything, which makes it easier to fit a crazy top or pair of shoes into an everyday outfit.
How To: This Fashionista loves spicing up black attire by accessorizing with gold and camouflage. If you too find that black items are the basis of your wardrobe, a little gold or silver is a great way to add that extra bit of glitz to any look. This golden theme appeared several times on the runway in Alexander McQueen’s spring 2013 collection, but the perfect metallic pieces are available all over the place. A studded bag, similar to the one this Fashionista is wearing, or gold or silver accessories can brighten up your look. Her camouflage blouse with splashes of gold along the placket is what really makes the whole ensemble stand out. Opting for a bold top like this one is a courageous and fun way to play with gold and inject a little sparkle into those neutral winter colours.
