Combining patterns in an outfit can be a daunting task. Between paisley, polka dots, stripes and everything in between, it takes a very precise balance to optimally wear multiple patterns together. I immediately appreciated this Fashionista’s ability to wear a pair of fiercely patterned pants and a nautical-inspired striped sweater. The colors of both items work together to create a beautiful outfit. The addition of a neutral toned jacket, feminine gold necklace and simple black booties tie the outfit together in an effortlessly chic way. It was clear that this Fashionista has an eye for fashion, and I was not surprised when I discovered she works in fashion retail.

CollegeFashionista: What’s the best part about working in fashion retail?
Shawna Hynes: To be entirely honest, it’s the goods; I feel so lucky to wear such gorgeous designer clothing & accessories all the time. I also love sharing those joyous moments with people when they’ve fallen truly in love with a beautiful dress or handbag.
CF: What’s your favorite clothing item or accessory to splurge on?
SH: It’s a tough call between impractical statement shoes and party dresses. I never fail to justify a good statement piece.
CF: Who would you consider your main fashion icon?
SH: I take a lot of inspiration from throwback fashionistas like Diana Vreeland and Jackie Onassis. Not surprisingly, I also look to modern style bloggers like Nicole of Gary Pepper Vintage and Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific.
CF: What is your favorite season for fashion?
SH: Autumn is without a doubt my favourite season for fashion. The color palates are always so rich and you have the ability to get creative with layering.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, start with a great pair of patterned pants or jeans that fit your own personal sense of style. This option from Gap is cute and quirky. Or, try this pair from ASOS for a more night appropriate look. Add a simple pair of booties, like these from ASOS, to complete the look.
