Name: Shauna York
Major: Early Childhood/Special Education
CollegeFashionista: What inspires your style?
Shauna York: Celebrities. When I see pictures of celeb street style that I like, I try to replicate the outfit using affordable brands.
CF: What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?
SY: My Vera Wang ankle booties. I feel like they are very mature and classy, plus they can be paired with almost everything.
CF: What advice can you offer to other fashion enthusiasts?
SY: It doesn’t matter where you get your clothes as long as you love them. People get too caught up on name brands when I get excited if I can find a unique item for six dollars. One of my favorite things to do is thrift!
CF: What do you like best about fashion?
SY: [One of thing I like best is] how many different types of styles there are. You can virtually be someone new every week; it’s like having an alter ego.
How To: Want to look expensive without breaking the bank? Start with the basics. Keep the look clean and classic with solid colors; black tends to be the most common go-to. This Fashionista incorporates black into her look with a crop top and leather leggings. Next, layer statement accessories over these basic colors. Placing a larger accessory against a solid base will draw peoples’ eyes and attention to the details of your look. Try this oversized gold chain necklace from Forever 21. Finish the look with a jacket that is cinched at the waist, like this sage green army jacket. This jacket adds an element of color and accents your natural figure.
