This Fashionista exemplifies comfort with her laid-back style by utilizing her most favorite fashion finds. Her art based major inspires the majority of her style choices, thus resulting in the intermingling of color and cardigans.
Name: Sarah Thigpen
Major: Art Therapy
CollegeFashionista: Where did you get your outfit?
Sarah Thigpen: My shoes are from DSW, jeans are from Urban Outfitters, cardigan from Target, T-shirt from a coffee shop in my home town and my coat is from Old Navy.
CF: How would you describe your style?
ST: I guess my style could be described as being pretty low-key. Most of my clothes are earth tones or neutral colors. I always just try to be comfortable, so I wear a lot of oversized button-ups, men’s sweaters and loose T-shirts.
CF: Your jacket is adorable! How do you incorporate such a bright color into your everyday wardrobe?
ST: This jacket is one of the most colorful things that I own and I liked that the waist was gathered to give shape instead of hanging loosely. I’ll probably wear it with casual outfits, either with jeans and cardigans like right now, or with shorts and tights.
CF: What three pieces in your closet could you not live without?
ST: My three favorite things are probably these shoes, my Cosby sweaters, and this blue, wool coat that I have. These shoes are fun to wear, versatile and make a great clicking sound on hardwood floors. I’ve always loved Bill Cosby and have accumulated quite a collection of Cosby-esque sweaters. Then the blue coat looks like something straight out of the ’50s with an A-line fit, hood, toggle buttons up the chest and it stops mid-thigh.
CF: What is one quick way to spruce up a casual back-from-break ensemble?
ST: I am usually in art classes so I rarely dress up for class. I usually wear an outfit like this one. But to spice up an outfit, I’ll do a cat eye, a rich lip color and a hair accessory like a scarf to pull my bangs back.
How to: This Fashionista shows a great way to mix all your trusty favorites into one fool-proof, go-to-class combination. She pairs one of her favorite T-shirts with a few added layers and straight-legged jeans. Topshop has a great collection of vintage looking knits that would look great layered underneath a cardigan. One easy way to brighten up a mostly neutral ensemble is to add a statement-making jacket or coat. This Fashionista got hers at Old Navy. You can purchase a similar one, here.
