For many of us, dressing with school spirit generally entails nothing more than a crewneck sweatshirt, some leggings and, occasionally, a fun accessory. Though it sometimes seems difficult to show off your pride while still looking cute, this Fashionista instantly caught my eye due to her amazing maize and blue ensemble. On a gorgeous spring afternoon (and the last day of classes here at the University of Michigan!), she easily could have been headed to the Big House on a Football Saturday to watch the Wolverines bring home a win.
Name: Sarah Brzezinski
CollegeFashionista: How has your personal style evolved since starting college?
Sarah Brzezinski: I’ve definitely had to learn to dress for the elements while still staying true to my style. Because I usually dress comfortably for classes, I generally try to accessorize with a statement necklace or cute scarf. Seeing outfits that other girls wear around campus always gives me inspiration!
CF: Where do you like to shop and why?
SB: H&M is my go-to store. They have everything from the basics to the latest trends. I also find some great things in thrift stores that help make my outfits unique. Both let me maintain a fashionable wardrobe while sticking to a college student’s budget.
CF: Which three items in your closet can you not live without?
SB: Scarves, leggings and sundresses! I always try to mix and match my outfits, and these items can be worn in so many different ways. Plus, seeing sundresses in my closet always makes me happy during those long winter months!
CF: Which trends are you most excited to try out this spring?
SB: My newest obsession is maxi skirts. I love the bohemian look they give; plus they are so versatile. You can pair them with dressy tops if you’re going somewhere more formal, or with a basic tank for a trip to the beach.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s preppy and spirited look, make sure to pair items that include school colors. To start, pick a simple striped T-shirt featuring one of your school’s colors. Over top, layer on a classic cardigan in the opposing color to contrast with the T-shirt. For your legs, opt for basic white chino shorts or white skinny jeans for a summery look. Add a few accessories to dress things up and you’re ready to show off your school spirit in style!
