I’ve been eyeing this Fashionista since I first started at SCAD. She seemed to wear a different look, yet with a similar feel, every day, and the edgy hairstyle was the icing on the cake. Her style is one of the many creative, yet effortless styles you witness while attending an art school. From her black wayfarer shades and boots to the plaid shirt tied casually around her waist, this Fashionista’s style is the essence of calm, cool and collected.
Name: Sania Tharani
Major: Fashion Marketing & Management
CollegeFashionista: Who are your biggest style icons?
Sania Tharani: I love music and celebrity culture, so my biggest style icons are Rihanna, M.I.A. and Kanye West. I love how all of them are bold and willing to wear things that others may not necessarily wear, and they make it look so effortless and cool.
CF: How would you describe your particular style and what inspires it?
Sania Tharani: I think my style is a bit grunge, like I’m that one kid who clearly thrifts and cuts up her own clothes. I’m really inspired by my Indian and Pakistani culture, with its bright colors and bold prints. I’m also inspired by the urban environment — the graffiti and the grime and grittiness of cities. The mesh of those two elements really play into my style as I like to experiment with color/prints and streetwear. Also, I take things I see on Tumblr and try them out myself — like my undercut hairstyle and dark lipstick. I like to think I’m just a fashion student who absorbs what’s around her and puts her own twist on it!
CF: If you won a shopping spree that was open to any store in the world, what store would that be?
Sania Tharani: I’d have to say Wasteland. It’s a store over in California that carries modern and vintage clothing, and I swear I’d wear everything in their online shop. I’m currently obsessed with graphic tees and sheer tops for summer, so I wish I really did have a free shopping spree at one of their locations!
