FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Sami Wagner

Fashionista Spotlight

If there was a decade I wish I could have witnessed firsthand, it would definitely be the ’70s. The daze of the laid back hippie lifestyle. I would love nothing more than to run around barefoot modeling high-waisted anything with flowers in my hair at a Fleetwood Mac concert. Fortunately for me, the high-waisted trend and floral prints are both in style this season and have been seen all around campus. I spotted this Fashionista flawlessly giving off a ’70s vibe with a modern twist of her own.

Name: Sami Wagner

Major: Nursing

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit.

Sami Wagner: My shorts are from Von Maur, top is from LuLu’s and my bag is from Revival Used Wear in downtown Iowa City. I am willing to spend money on things I think are worth it, but I also am willing to spend time searching for things at a better price.

CF: What decade describes your style?

SW: The ’70s because I love high-waisted, floral, easy going style.

CF: Have you seen anything your parents wore that you would wear?

SW: My mom use to rock high-waisted ’70s-style clothing that my Grandma would make her. I wish she still had them so I could borrow them!

CF: What are you most looking forward to wearing this summer?

SW: I love tank tops that have an open back. They are conservative in the front but show some skin in the back.

CF: If you had a budget less than 40 dollars on your next shopping trip, what would you spend it on?

SW: A high quality eyelash curler. I like when my lashes are full. Or a good pair of shorts that you can dress up or dress down.

CF: What is a trend you are wanting to try?

SW: I think minimalist swimsuits are very sexy, but I don’t know if I could pull them off in Iowa. It could look too abnormal. Or cutout jumpsuits that are more high status and big city.

How To: Style your favorite high-waisted shorts with ease, like this Fashionista. Pair them with a crop top. They are a trending piece this season. An off the shoulder one shows off an area not normally seen and will make you stand out. A floral pattern is also perfect for the spring season. Accessorize with a satchel and a metallic pair of sandals to dress up your feet and you’re ready to hit the streets!
