Fashion is so much more than clothing; it is an attitude. It is all about the creativity you use to express yourself. Many people can wear designer, but only those who can have the confidence to be daring can really stand out on the streets of New York City.
I spotted this Fashionista wearing a flattering boyish layered ensemble. The backwards hat and big sunglasses give off a carefree vibe yet poised attitude. And if these accessories weren’t enough, this Fashionista’s nail art is quoting Jay Z. She had to give Man Repeller the inspiration credit.
Her fashion innovation plays out in her outfit and carries into her start-up fashion line!
Name: Samantha Zaitz
Major: International Agriculture and Rural Development
CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your style.
Sammy Zaitz: I would say my style is classic but with an edgy twist. I love sticking to the basics like blazers and ballet flats. However, I’m always in studs, leather and sequins. My go-to outfit is usually leather leggings, a blazer, flats and a tank top. Some days I dress like a schoolgirl and other days a biker chic.
CF: What style advice would you give to girls moving into New York City?
SZ: I think girls moving to New York have a great opportunity to express themselves. We’re lucky enough that everything has been seen and done so there’s no reason to hold back. In NYC, anything goes and no one will think twice about how you express yourself. Go big or go home.
CF: If your closet could only be one designer, which would you choose?
SZ: If my entire wardrobe had to consist of one designer it would definitely be Balmain. Everything by them is young and edgy yet, still maintains a sense of composure and class. The dresses are short and flirty, the blazers structured and tailored perfectly. Every piece in their collection stays true to its style. Other brands normally have one amazing dress that sells out while the rest of the collection sits on the racks. Every piece in Balmain’s collections have that ‘wow’ factor. Balmain sticks with what they do best and it works.
CF: what do you hope to do with fashion?
SZ: Right now I’m working on my own clothing line called Sam&Drew. Much like my sense of style, the brand is classic yet edgy and exciting. I’m currently in production with SS 2015 and working on fall. I love designing clothing and cannot wait to see where the collection goes. However, buying for a store has always been my dream!
How To: Tune into your inner boyish style. Basketball caps, sneakers and rolled up oxfords are all staples in a male’s closet. All of these components look great on the average Joe but even more chic on a feminine figure. Invest in some leather bottoms. No matter what, leather always gives off a cool persona. So follow this Fashionista’s advice and “Go big or go home!”
