Fashionista Spotlight

Unfortunately, I am now far away from a college campus, but fortunately still very close to a Fashionista. This Fashionista has a Style Guru for a big sister so of course she is just as stylish. She is home from college in Washington D.C. and is having a much easier time expressing her style. She is a college athlete and sometimes finds it difficult to always dress her best. That doesn’t stop her though. She will add statement jewelry to anything she has on. She doesn’t force her style, she just wears what she loves at the perfect time.

Name: Raven Buckner

Major: Kinesiology

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Raven Buckner: I’m wearing a sundress from a boutique in uptown Houston. My leopard ballet flats are from there as well. I love boutiques. I never see anyone else in the clothes I find from there. My rain jacket is from Old Navy and my vintage purse was taken from my mom’s closet. The orange and blue leather bracelets are by Fossil and the bangles are from Forever 21. My necklace is monogramed with my initials from Eve’s Addiction

CF: Describe your style in three words.

RB: Fun, carefree and leopard. I don’t care what everyone else is wearing. If I want to wear this or that, then I will. And I will add some leopard print in there, too!

CF: Besides your fashionable sister, who inspires your style?

RB: Yeah right! I can’t really name just one person, but I read a lot of fashion magazines. I grab different tips and trends from each one.

CF: Being a college cheerleader, how do you balance time between practice, class, games and dressing to impress?

RB: It depends on the day. Practice is at 6 a.m. so if I have an 8 a.m. class, I go straight there. On the other days, I have time to get myself together and pick out cute outfits for the day. As far as games go, I just make sure my hair and make-up looks great.

CF: What fashion trend can you not see yourself in?

RB: Patterned tights. I believe that body type plays a big role in what you should and shouldn’t wear. Some people have ruined the patterned tights trend for me. I just don’t like them now.

How To: It’s the end of spring and almost the beginning of summer. Every girl needs to bring out her best sundress. Whether it is above-the-knee, mid-length or maxi, a cute and colorful sundress is a timeless trend. Bright is right and Forever 21 is the place to go for color. This red maxi dress is hot! Don’t forget a statement shoe like this Fashionista and her leopard. These sandals by Kendall and Kylie Jenner for Madden Girl are the perfect touch!
