Personally, I tend to find some preppy styles to be obnoxious or outdated. This opinion of mine has lead me to avoid plaid patterns, argyle prints and bright collared T-shirts since my awkward middle school years. Yet, I felt my opinions on all things preppy sway when I saw the feminine and modern twist this Fashionista put on what I had previously thought was an archaic style.
Wearing a warm, navy blue waist coat over a lace trimmed sweater and skinny jeans, complete with a knotted plaid scarf and black ankle boots, this Fashionista proved that even plaid can be cute and girly if paired with the right articles of clothing and accessories. She certainly has inspired me to give preppy styles a second chance!
Name: Rachel Lowler
Major: Public Relations, Psychology minor
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Rachel Lowler: I don’t think I can really define it. I guess my style is pretty preppy and girly. I love my flats, skinny jeans and dresses but I also look to hipsters for trends.
CF: What fashion advice would you give others?
RL: Always look presentable; you never know whom you are going to see.
CF: Whom do you consult for fashion advice?
RL: I usually ask my mom because she has really good fashion advice. She’s pretty hip for her age.
CF: Where do you like to shop?
RL: I’m mostly a mall shopper but I also shop online. My current favorite store to shop online is Garage, a Canadian based store that has a lot of unique items.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s girly and preppy look try wearing this pale pink lace trimmed sweater from Urban Outfitters over a pair of skinny jeans. Trade the button-down navy blue waistcoat for a single-breasted coat or blazer. Then knot on a flirty floral scarf instead in of a plaid scarf, add a pair of black boots, a pair of teardrop earrings and of course, a functional and fashionable Coach bag and you will be ready to show off your feminine, preppy side!
