FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Rachel Karmel

Fashionista Spotlight

We have always wanted to try those crazy bold outfit pieces that we see in all the magazines, but we are just too shy or too afraid to actually go for it. Well unlike us, this Fashionista isn’t afraid to try new things. If she sees something she likes, she will make it her own and take the risk. She is always confident in her style choices, making her an amazing Fashionista.

Name: Rachel Karmel

Major: Music Education

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: What is your go to outfit for classes? What about a night out?

Rachel Karmel: For classes, I love wearing high-waisted jeans and a simple V-neck T-shirt. I’ll also throw on a cardigan with a long necklace, and I’ll usually put my hair in a long side braid. When I go out, I like to wear a darker pair of high-waisted jeans with a flowy shirt. I’ll either wear flats or combat boots, and I’ll curl my hair with my curling wand. I will always have at least one color in my outfit. I’ll never wear all black or all of one color. I like to at least have a colored jacket or a colored shirt to make my outfit pop.

CF: Who do you look up to for fashion inspiration and advice?

RK: I aspire to look like the Brandy Melville and TOBI models. I love to try and re-create looks from their lines. As for celebrities, I look up to Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus circa 2010. I also get a lot of inspiration from platforms such as Tumblr. I love allthefashionyoulleverneed‘s blog.

CF: What is your favorite way to accessorize?

RK: I love long necklaces that have a simple chain and a simple charm as well as my venetian link Tiffany & Co. bracelet. I am also really hooked on midi rings right now. I love braiding my hair and trying out cool new nail art because that can really bring an outfit together.

How To: It is your lucky day, Fashionistas! Rachel’s outfit is extremely economical and easy to re-create. The first thing you want to look for is a military-styled utility jacket. You can find a bunch at Charlotte Russe. Her layers underneath are so easy to find because you can mix and match basic colors for the skirt and the blouse. Her skirt is from Cotton On and you can get a basic blouse in almost every color from Express. If you love her rose patterned tights as much as I do, you can find the exact pair from ASOS or some hosiery kiosks or boutiques. As for her adorable boots, you can find the exact pair from Dr. Martens or any brown or black combat boot will do.
